DR. WILLIAM J. PAVER

Dr. Paver's career in international admissions and credentials evaluation has included leadership positions in all the major professional organizations in the field of foreign admissions. Much of his knowledge stems from his years as Director of the Graduate and International Admissions Center at the University of Texas at Austin (GIAC), where he developed a benchmark admissions system that is looked to as a standard for excellence nationwide. He is widely recognized as an expert in the evaluation of foreign credentials has served as a consultant on visa matters to Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) as well as on the CIPRIS/SEVIS program Dr. Paver was also recently cited as an Honorary Member of AACRAO (see citation).

Served on the U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service's (INS) Interagency Task Force as an Expert Consultant in defining evaluation and cross check standards for use in the design, development and operational testing of a comprehensive Foreign Student and Exchange Visitors Screening, Monitoring and Reporting system known as the Student-Exchange Visitor System (CIPRIS/SEVIS)

Twice appointed to and has served on the National Council on the Evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials. The Council establishes the placement recommendations, used nationally, to determine how foreign educational credentials are to be evaluated for the purposes of employment and academic placement (admissions).

Member of the Projects in International Educational Research (PIER) committee. PIER oversees the production of books on the educational systems of foreign countries for AACRAO and NAFSA

Author of comparative education publications on Britain, Russia and China.

Author and editor of the Handbook on the Placement of Foreign Graduate Students (the "Grad Handbook"), a widely used standard text in the field of international admissions

Presenter at numerous conferences including NAFSA, AACRAO, SACRAO, European Association of International Educators (EAIE), The Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE), the College Board and the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals (NAGAP)

Member and Chair of the Open Doors Committee for the Institute of International Education (IIE). Open Doors is the annual publication of census data on foreign students studying in the United States

Responsible for the admission of transfer students to the University of Texas at Austin

Member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Boards Committee for the development of a common application for students applying to public institutions of higher education Texas. Assisted in the development of the graduate and international applications for the Texas State Common Application.
